Sony refreshes PlayStation 5 gaming console with sleek design, more storage
On October 10, the Japanese electronics manufacturer Sony revealed the updated PlayStation 5 (PS5). Compared to its predecessor, the new PS5 boasts a streamlined form factor and 30% less volume occupied. Unlike its predecessor, which had 825GB of on-board storage, the thinner PS5 has up to 1TB of storage available.
Sony is allowing users of the digital model to install a modular Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which retails for $79.99 in the US when purchased separately. A horizontal stand is included with the models, and a vertical stand that works with the new PS5 models will be available for separate purchase for $29.99. See Also: Review of the Sony WF-1000XM5
Compared to its predecessor, the base PS5 model, which includes an integrated disc drive, weighs 18% less. Thirty percent less weight than the previous generation model is the Digital Edition.
The Deep Earth Collection colors (Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver) and an all-matte black color are among the new console color options, according to the business. These will go on sale in the first part of 2019.
The new PS5 models will go on sale in the US in November, and in the months that follow, they should become accessible everywhere.
In the US, the regular model will cost $499.99, while the Digital Edition will be available for $449.99, a $50 price increase.
